L'Oreal gets a Body Shop

Dissonant discourse?
"The language of business is not the language of the soul or the language of humanity. It's a language of indifference; it's a language of separation, of secrecy, of hierarchy."
-- Dame Anita Roddick, founder, The Body Shop

"When we've got the biggest cosmetics company in the world saying 'Teach us about family farmers, teach us about women's co-operatives', then we are very happy."
-- Anita Roddick (nearly 2 weeks ago)

Brand provenance

"When CNW surveyed shoppers coming out of Wal-Mart stores, 75% said they preferred to buy American, yet an inspection of their purchases found that 90% were made in China."
- CHICAGO TRIBUNE 1.24.06

This would make an interesting post about the «brand provenance» image, the real "made in" country and the perceptions the consumer has about what he thinks he's buying.

"Food for thought"

"The 'surplus society' has a surplus of similar companies, employing similar people, with similar educational backgrounds, coming up with similar ideas, producing similar things, with similar prices and similar quality. To succeed we must stop being so damn normal. In a winner-takes-all world, normal = nothing."
- Kjell Nordström and Jonas Ridderstråle, "Funky Business"

Sopranos and Google maps

According to Advertising Age, HBO is creating a map of New Jersey to remind viewers about some of the Sopranos' story lines, scenes and places. Using a Google platform as branding medium, HBO expects it to work as "a geo-visual tour of the TV series, a very interactive way to get people caught up".
